What we treat

Pick the problem. Each page says what we do about it, how long it usually takes, and when to see a doctor instead.

Your first visit

One hour. You leave with a diagnosis you understand, exercises you can do tonight, and a plan with an end date.

  1. Tell us the story

How it happened, what it stops you doing, and what you want to get back to. We book an hour so nobody is rushed.

  2. Get tested, not guessed

Strength, range, balance and movement, measured and written down, so progress is a number rather than a feeling.

  3. Start treatment the same day

Hands-on work, the first two or three exercises, and a plain explanation of what is going on.

  4. Leave with a plan

How many visits, what you do between them, what it costs with your insurance, and when you can expect to run, lift or work again.

Who you will work with

Dr. Andre Whitaker

Dr. Andre Whitaker

Founder and sports physical therapist · PT, DPT, SCS

Andre opened Copperline in 2014 after six years as the physical therapist for a college athletics department, where he got tired of watching athletes discharged before they were ready. He is a board-certified Sports Clinical Specialist and leads our ACL, shoulder and return-to-sport work.

He still plays pickup basketball on Tuesdays and has treated most of the people he plays with.

Dr. Elin Sorensen

Dr. Elin Sorensen

Physical therapist, post-surgical rehab lead · PT, DPT, OCS

Elin joined in 2017 from a hospital outpatient department and runs our post-surgical program. She is a board-certified Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist and works directly with the surgeons at the major Fort Collins orthopedic groups, so your protocol here matches what your surgeon expects.

She is a trail runner and understands, personally, the frustration of being told to rest.

What patients say

4.8

Average of 214 Google reviews

  • Tore my ACL skiing in January and was told I would miss the whole trail season. Andre had me hiking Horsetooth in June. Every session had a number on it so I could see it working.

Derek H.5 out of 5 stars
  • After my shoulder replacement the hospital handed me a sheet of exercises. Elin actually watched me do them, fixed three things in the first ten minutes, and I finally started sleeping through the night.

Marisol V.5 out of 5 stars
  • Straight talk. They told me at visit one that my back would take six weeks, not two, and it took six. The 7 AM slots meant I never missed work.

Treatment with a finish line

Physical therapy has a reputation for going on forever. Ours does not. At your first visit we measure what is wrong, in numbers, and tell you what those numbers need to be before you are done. Every session after that, we measure again. When the numbers are there and you can do the thing you came in for, you are discharged, with a program to keep you there.

You work with a doctor of physical therapy for the full session. Nobody hands you to an aide for the exercises, because the exercises are the treatment, and watching how you do them is most of the job.

Common questions

Do I need a referral to see a physical therapist in Colorado?

No. Colorado allows direct access, so you can book with us without seeing a doctor first. Some insurance plans still require a referral to pay, and we check yours before the first visit.

How long is each session?

Your first visit is an hour. Follow-ups are 45 minutes to an hour, one to one with your physical therapist for the whole session.

How many visits will I need?

It depends on the problem. A recent ankle sprain might be four visits. A knee reconstruction is closer to six months. We give you an estimate at the first visit and update it as we measure progress.

Will I see the same therapist each time?

Yes. You are assigned one physical therapist who plans and delivers your care. If they are away, the handover is written and the other therapist has already met you.

Is dry needling available?

Yes. Both therapists are certified in dry needling and use it when it fits the plan, never as the plan itself.
